Scientific Notation I: The Exponent
This packet includes instructions, a data table that students fill out, and questions. We recommend that students use the data table in the "Do you Know it?" section - a test of skills acquired in the first section. The table is set up so that students fill in the question number on the left (we've put in 1-5 for you), then fill out the columns with their answers. The "Do you Know it?" applet will fill out one field for the students -- students are expected to fill out the rest of the fields based on the one provided. The checkbox next to each column is for students to indicate which field was given.

Scientific Notation II: The Mantissa
This packet includes instructions, a data table that students fill out, and questions. We recommend that students use the data table in the "Do you Know it?" section. The table is set up in much the same way as the table provided for "Scientific Notation I: The Exponent"; it simply has an extra field to reflect the mantissa.

Scientific Notation III: Linear vs. Exponential
This packet includes instructions, a data table that students fill out, log graphing paper, and questions. The data table is for the "Bacterial Growth" section. The table in this packet mirrors the table in the applet - students fill out the table with the numbers the applet provides for them. We recommend multiple runs of the experiment to see the differences in the numbers and the graphs later on. The log graphing paper is for use in the "Graphing Activities" section. Using the instructions provided by the applet, students can graph the data in their tables on logarithmic graphs.
